Here is a focus on Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a type of meditation that is about reawakening to allow us to break free from the current way of living to bring about deep and positive changes in our lives. Just by noticing our thoughts and feelings, it can help us improve our well-being and other areas such as:
• Over-Analysing
• Worrying
• Relationships
• Self-Confidence
• Self-Esteem
• Over-Thinking
• Resilience
• Negative Thoughts
• Weight Loss and Management

The human body is controlled by the mind, so by focussing on it you can benefit emotionally and physically. Our body learns to follow the mind. Changes can occur just by reprogramming one’s thoughts. Problems are often rolled into one, so healing in one area and addressing things that are causing stress, can have a ripple effect on all aspects of your life.

Mindfulness is backed with abundant scientific research, in fact MRI scans of patients who regularly practise mindfulness show structural changes in the brain. There are chemical changes in the body that also occur. Those who practice mindfulness meditation have less cortisol and adrenaline – two hormones which are released when you are stressed. When you are constantly stressed, too much of these hormones are in your system causing increased heart rate, raised blood pressure, sweating, anxiety and palpitations.

At the practice are fortunate to have Dr Afrosa Ahmed who, having trained and worked as a NHS GP for 15 years, began to see a huge growth in mental health problems over the last decade. “As a GP I began to explore alternative practices, which could not also help with these problems but also prevent them. I looked at various different modalities, but mindfulness resonated with me the most. It is remarkably easy to do and most wonderful of all, you cannot fail at it. Everybody can practice mindfulness; it is a completely natural and effective method.“

She practices both Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
